Young P-plater's extraordinary tirade against highway patrol officer caught on video

A young driver has been filmed calling a highway patrol officer a "redneck" and criticising his weight after being caught driving without his P-plates.

The footage, aired on A Current Affair last night, shows the angry driver whinging for over a minute about being given a ticket and then resorting to name-calling.

In the video, filmed by a passenger in the front seat, the officer approaches the car and tells the driver he has been given four tickets before for not displaying the plates.

"You want to know what I think of you? I think you're just a f---ing useless piece of s--- mate," the driver tells the officer.

"You have nothing better to do mate. You're just bored ... You're just a redneck thats bored. Racist mate, you're racist.

"You've done 180ks to catch me without P-plates. You're putting the civilians in danger not us. You're putting people in danger for a P-plate. Wake up to yourself."

The video ends with the driver finally accepting the fine before telling the officer he needs "severe help ... like Jenny Craig help".

The officer calmly handled the abuse, repeatedly telling the driver "don't swear".

It was not clear where the incident occurred.
