Finally, Muir's maiden speech to start off
AAP
Ricky Muir, whose political career is built on a love of fast cars, has been in no hurry to deliver his first speech to parliament.
The Australian Motoring Enthusiast Party senator took up his seat in the chamber eight months ago - but he still hasn't delivered his maiden speech.
That's scheduled to come next Thursday.

Senators can choose the timing of their first speeches, but this is believed to be among the longest lead-ups in parliament's history.
Senator Muir was elected in 2013 with just 0.51 per cent of the Victorian vote, thanks to preference flows.
