Fidget spinner warning after Sydney boy swallows fad toy’s loose disc

A Sydney boy has been rushed to hospital after accidentally swallowing a loose part of a fidget spinner.

The child was playing with the spinner when one of its disc’s “flew off”, his mother, who was not identified, posted to Facebook yesterday.

“The side of the spinner was cracked and when he spun it, the disc flew off and he swallowed it,” she wrote.

She said the boy was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where an x-ray was performed.

The scan clearly shows the spinner’s circular disc in the boy’s stomach.

He did not require surgery, but “has to pass the disc within two days” or “alternative extraction will be required”, the mother wrote.

It comes just months after a US girl nearly choked after part after the fidget spinner became lodged in her oesophagus.

The fidget spinner, originally designed to help those with ADHD and autism, has become one of the hottest toys this year.

A number of Australian schools have banned the fidget spinners in classrooms, claiming they are distracting and addictive.
