Thousands of people are no longer receiving the disability support pension.
Under tighter new rules forcing claimants to undertake some form of work, the number of people receiving the $788 fortnightly payment dropped by about 16,000 last financial year.
Taxpayers forked out $16.5 billion to support about 814,000 people on the pension, slightly above the previous year's figures, data from Department of Social Services annual report shows.
