An out-of-control truck hits seven cars after brakes fail

An out-of-control truck has slammed into a total of seven vehicles after losing its brakes in Melbourne's east this morning. 

A man, initially trapped in a vehicle, has been taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with head and chest injuries.

The truck travelling west on Mount Dandenong Tourist in Upper Ferntree Gully careered into a number of vehicles also travelling west at 8.26am.

A man in his 60s and another man in his 40s have both been taken to Dandenong Hospital in a stable condition.

A woman, whose condition is unknown, has also been taken to Dandenong Hospital.

Motorists are still advised to avoid the area as the clean-up continues.
