Female teacher charged with historic sex offences

A female teacher has been arrested and charged over historic child sex offences in Sydney’s south-west.

In February 2017, detectives from Bankstown Police commenced an investigation into historic offences allegedly committed against a male student at a high school in Birrong in 1997.

Police allege that the boy was 15 years old at the time of the alleged offences, and the teacher was 27.

Police will also allege that another boy, then aged 15, was sexually assaulted by the same teacher at the school in 1997.

About 7am Monday, police attended a home in Padstow and arrested a woman, now aged 47.

She was taken to Bankstown Police Station and charged with 16 counts of aggravated sexual assault and five counts of act of indecency.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday January 10, 2018.

Police encourage any victim of sexual assault, no matter how long ago the incident occurred to come forward. Reports can be made at any police station.
