Female officer punched in Sydney

A female police officer has been punched in the face by a man who refused to comply with a move-on direction in Sydney's west.

A man has been charged with assault after the incident at Bidwill at about 10.50pm (AEDT) on Thursday.

Police say officers were patrolling Carlisle Avenue when they approached three men and told them to leave the area.

It's alleged one of the men refused, verbally abused a female officer and punched her in the face.

When police tried to arrest him, he allegedly tackled the female officer and was involved in a scuffle.

The female officer sustained cuts and bruises but did not need medical treatment.

A 24-year-old man was charged with malicious damage, assaulting police, resisting arrest, and continuing intoxicated behaviour after being given a move-on direction.

He was granted conditional bail to appear in Mt Druitt Local Court on February 7.
