Female jockeys allegedly caught up in love triangle

NSW Police are investigating an alleged fight between two female jockeys reportedly caught up in a love triangle.

The incident that left Crystal Conning, 25, with a fractured eye socket and severe bruising occurred on Sunday afternoon in the jockey rooms at Hawkesbury Race Club, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Ms Conning raced shortly after the alleged confrontation and finished a distant last. The jockey told race stewards that her injuries had been caused by a kick from a horse and she was ruled unfit to ride.

Ms Conning then left the racecourse, wearing a pair of sunglasses her partner Mitch Newman had given her, according to witnesses.

But when Ms Conning arrived at her home she contacted stewards again and described a different version of events to what she had told them earlier.

The Telegraph reports that the alleged fight in the jockey rooms was sparked when retired jockey Natalie Lye, 35, found text messages between Conning and her fiance, barrier attendant Dean Singleton.

Despite being retired Ms Lye still has a racing licence but as she was not due to compete on Sunday she would not have been allowed to enter the jockeys' rooms.

NSW Racing chief steward Marc Van Gestel said the organisation was investigating the incident.

NSW Police have also launched an investigation.

Ms Lye, Mr Newman and Ms Conning have all declined to comment.
