Liberal MP Jason Falinski has retained his seat of Mackellar, the Australian Electoral Commission has announced.

The Sydney seat has been held by the Liberal party since 1949, with Mr Falinksi winning the seat in 2016 after successfully challenging previous MP and former Speaker Bronwyn Bishop for pre-selection.

Mr Falinksi's victory in 2016 netted him 65.74 per cent of the two-party preferred vote, which was a 3.1 per cent swing away from the party.

The 2019 vote was expected to deliver another minor swing against Mr Falinski, but not enough to threaten his incumbency.

With 92 per cent of the vote counted, Mr Falinski held 63.3 per cent of the two-party preferred vote against Labor candidate Declan Steele (36.7 per cent) – a 2.44 per cent swing against him.

The AEC will officially finalise the result tomorrow.
