Man killed during peak hour on Monash Freeway in Melbourne

A man has been killed in a serious car crash on a busy freeway in Melbourne.

Investigators have been told a car was involved in a minor crash with a second car on the Monash Freeway at Endeavour Hills, followed immediately by a second collision with a truck about 4pm.

The driver of the car, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene.

The drivers of the second car and truck were uninjured, police said.

The crash has caused traffic chaos during peak hour, with traffic banked up for kilometres all the way back to Wellington Road.

Motorists have been urged to try using the Princes Highway through Dandenong, Heatherton Road through Endeavour Hills or Wellington Road through Lysterfield.

Three lanes of the Monash were closed outbound between Heatherton Road and Belgrave-Hallam Road.
