For more than 40 years, Arnott's Shapes have been a classic Aussie favourite and lunchbox staple, but a "new and improved" flavour has come under fire from fans.

Arnott's new range Shapes Extreme hit stores shelves this month, following fan demand to make the flavour "bigger and bolder".

The new range of Shapes are said to boast a bolder taste, with both sides sprinkled with flavour baked into the core of the biscuit.

But despite the attempt to create a more tasty treat, some fans have lashed out about the classic Aussie cracker since the new Shapes hit shelves.

"These new Shapes are DISGUSTING. I won't be buying these again and throwing out my current lot," Mikayla Power wrote.

"Definitely NOT a fan of the "new" and "improved" flavours, would appreciate if you could bring them back, especially pizza shapes since they're my absolute favourite," Chelsea Coto added.

The company responded to the wave of rage-fuelled customer feedback.

"We've done extensive taste testing with groups of fans and the reactions were overall really positive," Arnott's Shapes said on Facebook.

Fans will still be able to indulge in original flavours Shapes Barbeque, Shapes Chicken Crimpy and Shapes Savory, which will be available in boxes alongside the new range.
