Justin Hodges was confirmed as the eighth solo Brisbane Broncos captain at the club’s season launch today, presented to fans and the media by returned coach Wayne Bennett.

Hodges spoke of his joy at being appointed to the top job.

“Growing up I just wanted to play football,” he said.

“I didn’t expect to be the captain of such a proud club, a club with so much history.”

Hodges beat out Queensland Origin forward Sam Thaiday and ex co-captain Corey Parker.

Bennett also spoke about why he dumped the club’s recent co-captaincy policy.

“Co-captaincy is management, when you’re the captain it’s leadership,” he said.

“And I’m not in the management business.”

Fans applauded the choice of Hodges as captain and declared their disbelief of the drug rumours plaguing the club.

The same confidence cannot be shared by fans of the tarnished Gold Coast Titans.

Founding chairman Paul Broughton has admitted the club had concerns in their inaugural 2007 season.

He refused to discuss whether the tests were positive or not.

But so far the Broncos have avoided any legal worries and the club does not expect that to change.
