Sydney man issues plea for thieves to return stolen war medals

A man who had his father’s war medals stolen by burglars who ransacked his Sydney unit has pleaded with the robbers to return the treasured heirlooms.

The break-in occurred between October 15-20 at a unit in Coronation Street, Petersham.

Glen Cassidy, 63, said he had not discovered the medals were missing until he had gone through the apartment with the police.

“It was a big shock when I discovered that they were gone,” he said.

“It’s a pretty low thing, to take something like that.”

The medals belonged to his late father Albert, who served in WWII and Vietnam, before ending his long military career as a Major in the SAS.

Mr Cassidy appealed directly to the thieves to return the medals, at a press conference in Sydney this afternoon.

“They’re no use to you,” he said.

“The only value they have is to me and my immediate family.”

Police have issued a public appeal for information.
