Family mourns father who drowned while fishing on SA coast

An Adelaide family is in mourning over the tragic death of a northern suburbs father pulled from the waters at a notorious beach on Yorke Peninsula. 

Police said devastated friends tried to save father-of-two Nasir Mohsini when he fell from rocks while fishing on Browns Beach in Innes National Park.

A full-scale search from the land, sea and air was launched as friends and family watched from the shore after the alarm was raised about 8pm (8.30pm AEDT) yesterday.

Almost 20 hours after the alarm was raised, water police recovered the 42-year-old's body at 1.40pm (2.10pm AEDT) yesterday.

Family described the 41-year-old from Salisbury as a loving family man.

"It's devastating for the family, a very close-knit community," Superintendent Mark Syrus said.

Browns Beach on Yorke Peninsula is a popular fishing spot about three and half hours from Adelaide.

"When he's entered the water he was on his back and the other members were trying to cast lines over him so he could grab hold of the lines," Syrus said.

"However, unfortunately that was not successful."

Police reiterated the dangers posed by the rugged stretch of coastline popular with tourists and known for its fishing.

An SES volunteer was injured during the search in challenging terrain and had to be airlifted to hospital.

A 16-year-old Paralowie boy drowned after being swept off rocks at the same beach while on a school trip in 2021.
