Families plan funerals as bodies of Dreamworld victims released

Autopsies on the four victims of the Dreamworld disaster have been completed and the bodies returned to their families for funerals.

Canberra woman Kate Goodchild, 32, her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozbeh Araghi, and Sydney-based Kiwi woman Cindy Low, 42, were killed when their raft overturned on the Thunder River Rapids ride last week.

Their bodies were repatriated over the weekend, The Courier Mail reports.

On Friday Dreamworld CEO Craig Davidson said the Gold Coast theme park would remain closed until after their funerals.

The park also remains the site of a police investigation and internal and external safety audits still need to take place.

Dreamworld originally announced they would open the gates for a memorial day on Friday before resuming usual business on Saturday, but those plans were cancelled following discussions with police, who are still investigating the tragedy.

Yesterday Dreamworld announced that one of Queensland's most experienced natural disaster recovery experts will steer a healing process and aim to restore international trust in the theme park after the tragedy.

Mike McKay, a retired inspector with more than four decades of experience in the state's police service acknowledged the scale of the task ahead.

"What I'm doing at the moment is getting my head around the logistics of this tragedy," he said at the Gold Coast park's entrance, where a huge collection of bouquets continued to grow.

Mr McKay has already been in touch with relatives of the victims - Kate Goodchild, her brother Luke Dorsett, his partner Roozi Araghi and Sydney woman Cindy Low - but said park staff would also need help.

"They're suffering and I've been brought in to look at the holistic approach as to how we can best get things back to some normalcy at some stage."

Mr Davidson said Mr McKay would develop a "comprehensive community engagement and recovery program", working to rebuild trust.

"There is no more qualified person than Mike to help us with this process," he said.
