A giant mountain ash tree has flattened 80 years of history in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria.

High winds brought the tree down at about 12.45 this morning, smashing the office and causing up to $200,000 of damage.

"There's nothing left," co-owner Kristina Beatty-Johnston said.

The pub closed early last night, which saved staff and patrons the possibility of serious injury.

The owners have pledged they will be pouring beer at the bar again in no time.
