Fake tour guide charged over drunken crash

A Northern Territory man allegedly went on a drunken rampage while pretending to be tour guide, exposing himself, threatening tourists with a knife and crashing his ute into a pole while banned from driving.

Police say the man, 42, put ads online for tours of a Litchfield National Park, 80km south of Darwin.

He was contacted by three tourists, two women and a man, for a tour of the Wangi Falls area of the park on Wednesday.

However, he allegedly got drunk before giving the tour and while they were walking he allegedly exposed himself to the group and made sexual advances to one of the women.

When they resisted he threatened them with a knife before running away.

The man then got into his ute and drove off, but a couple of kilometres away he crashed his ute into a pole.

He was arrested a short time later and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, unlawfully using a controlled weapon, indecent assault, performing acts of gross indecency, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence, driving without due care and driving in the NT whilst disqualified interstate.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court on Friday.
