Woman's body pulled from river at Melbourne park sparks police investigation

Police are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in water at a Melbourne park today.

Victoria Police were called to Fairbairn Park in Ascot Vale, northwest of the Melbourne CBD, around 7am this morning following reports the body of a person had been found in the Maribyrnong River.

Emergency services, including water police, were deployed to the scene and scoured the river looking for the woman.

"Police responded to reports of a body located in water near Fairbairn Park, Ascot Vale this morning," a Victoria Police statement said.

"Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 7am, where a woman's body was recovered from the water. The woman is yet to be formally identified.

"At this stage her death is not being treated as suspicious, however the exact circumstances are yet to be determined. Police will prepare a report for the Coroner."
