Extinction Rebellion climate activists block traffic on busy Melbourne road
Extinction Rebellion climate activists have caused significant traffic disruptions by blocking a busy inner Melbourne road.
A group of protesters blocked cars and clashed with angry commuters on Punt Road in Richmond just after 7.30am.
Protester Sam Clarke explained that the demonstration was timed to coincide with ongoing discussions on climate change at the annual COP29 summit.

Clarke said they needed to be more bold in their protests to ensure the message reached the public.
"We have a climate emergency, we are running out of time we couldn't be more desperate," he said.
"We knew this would be upsetting.
"We don't like that this is what it's come to. We have done the petitions and the vigils. We aren't getting anywhere."

Victoria Police quickly arrived at the scene and removed the protesters from the road.
Traffic on Punt Road is now clearing, and the activists have confirmed they will remain off the roadway.
