A 60-year-old Direk man was arrested and charged with possessing instructions and taking steps to manufacture explosives.

He has been refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, officers said the bomb response unit seized the explosive substances and "are in the process of disposing of them safely".
