Ex-Lions star on attempted murder charge

Former Brisbane Lions player Albert Proud has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman, believed to be his girlfriend.
Police allege Proud assaulted the 35-year-old at a Sunnybank home early on Sunday morning, with a passerby finding her in the street with severe face and head injuries.
She was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Proud, who played 29 games for the AFL club from 2007-10, has been charged with attempted murder, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
The 27-year-old's case was briefly heard in Richland Magistrates Court on Monday morning, and he will appear in Holland Park Magistrates Court on November 19.
Proud played 29 games for the Lions after being drafted as pick 22 in 2006.
In 2010 he was delisted by the club and has battled alcohol problems throughout his AFL career.
The midfielder was again drafted by the Lions before being sacked in 2011 for misbehaving.
