ex-Bligh minister to run for re-election

Former Bligh minister Cameron Dick will try to regain a seat in the Queensland parliament after being ousted during the Liberal National Party's landslide victory in 2012.

Labor state secretary Anthony Chisholm has confirmed the former education minister and attorney-general wants to run in Labor MP Desley Scott's safe seat of Woodridge at the 2015 election.

Queensland Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk is expected to announce Ms Scott's upcoming retirement later on Tuesday.

Mr Dick lost his inner-Brisbane seat of Greenslopes to the Ian Kaye at the 2012 poll, when the LNP claimed 78 seats in the state's 89-seat parliament.

"My understanding is that Cameron has expressed to local branch members that he intends to seek preselection in Woodridge," Mr Chisholm told ABC Radio.

"Obviously, now that nominations have opened, that's a matter for the local branch members."

Ms Scott has held the working class seat of Woodridge in Logan, south of Brisbane, since 2001.

Queensland Labor this week opened preselection nominations for 47 seats.

Mr Chisholm said preselection had already taken place in 11 seats.

Labor is looking for a mix of new faces and candidates with previous parliamentary experience.

Kate Jones, who lost Ashgrove in inner-Brisbane to Premier Campbell Newman in 2012, is also a possible candidate.

Ms Palaszczuk has previously said she would like her to run, but given she had recently had a baby, it would depend on her family situation.
