Escaped Qld prisoners caught

Two inmates who escaped from a central Queensland prison have been caught.

Tony Dwaine Morgan, 33, and Bradley Thomas Kuhl, 34, slid under a fence at the Capricornia Correctional Centre near Rockhampton on Sunday night.

A police spokeswoman confirmed to AAP they were taken into custody at Keppel Sands about 4.30pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said earlier on Wednesday the pair had been seen buying a six pack of beer at a nearby pub before driving off in a car.

Police spent the afternoon searching the area around the Cawarral pub for any sign of the fugitives.

They were spotted travelling in a stolen white 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser at Keppel Sands.

Morgan was serving a life sentence for a 1999 murder in Bundaberg, while Kuhl was doing time for a 2011 armed robbery in Yeppoon.

Their escapes from a low-security prison farm have sparked calls from unions to increase prison staff across the state, claiming it was a factor in the escapes.

Meanwhile, police are still on the hunt for drug dealer Howard Lindsay, who was reported missing from a work camp at Blackall, in central western Queensland, on Monday morning.

They are also looking for sex offender Stewart James Dawson, who disobeyed a home detention order at the Fortitude Valley in inner Brisbane.

The public is being urged not to approach them.
