Erasers prompt safety warning in SA

Erasers shaped like balls and others resembling food products have prompted a safety warning from South Australian authorities.

Business Services Minister Gail Gago says the state's consumer watchdog issued the warning on Friday following a complaint in Victoria.

It's worried the erasers could be mistaken as food by young children.

"These days, companies are becoming increasingly creative with their products," Ms Gago said.

"Erasers can come in a variety of shapes that look or smell like food, such as confectionary, lollipops, ice cream cones and even donuts making them attractive to younger children who could easily mistake them for the real thing."
