Ephedrine found in tea bags from China

Two kilograms of a drug precursor have been uncovered in tea bags at a Sydney mail centre.

Australian Customs and Border Protection Service officers inspected a package of six sealed boxes at the Sydney International Mail Centre on Wednesday.

The boxes contained cartons of tea, including 81 tea packets, bundled with clothes.

In a statement on Saturday, Customs further investigations revealed the tea packets, sent from China, contained ephedrine.

Ephedrine is used to manufacture drugs including "ice".
