The Clean Energy Finance Corporation has agreed to help energy company Origin drive an increase in the use of solar.

The 12-year $100 million financing commitment announced on Wednesday will support the company's offer of power purchase agreements, which allow customers to buy energy generated from panels, rather than buying the panels themselves.

The finance will assist Origin in owning, installing and maintaining solar systems on household and business customers' roofs, the corporation's CEO Oliver Yates said in a statement.

The program was launched in May and is available within a 100km radius of the CBDs in Adelaide, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney, as well as within a 50km radius of Townsville.

Origin general manager for solar and emerging businesses Phil Mackey said the service is already proving attractive to customers.

"The CEFC finance will be used in expanding the offering, so more Australians can enjoy the benefits of solar," he said in a statement to the ASX.
