Man critically injured after plane crash at Greenbank, south of Brisbane

A pilot has suffered critical injuries after his plane crashed in a paddock at Greenbank, south of Brisbane.

The 24-year-old man was pulled from the aircraft by bystanders before it caught fire about 2.30 today.

His rescuers managed to carry him on to the tray of a ute before emergency services arrived.

Paramedic Mark Nugent said the people who rushed to his aid should be praised for their actions.

"It's remarkable to see that we did get a positive outcome for the patient and those people should be commended," Mr Nugent said.

"Due to the good work of the people who were around him, and also the other paramedics and emergency services, there were options taken to give us good options to treat the patient."

After receiving treatment at the scene, the pilot was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

"The patient does have a head injury, some chest injuries, long bone fractures, and abdominal injuries," paramedic Mark Nugent said.

The pilot was the only person on board the aircraft.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
