Ellen surprises wife with car

Ellen DeGeneres has pulled a cheeky Christmas prank on her wife, Portia de Rossi, before surprising her with a brand new car.

In a segment during her talk show called Celebrity Christmas Stories, DeGeneres explained that she wanted to surprise her leading lady of six years with the $160,000 Land Rover 'Defender'.

"I got her a car. That was easy. But I had to hide it in the attic. Which was not easy," DeGeneres joked on her show.

De Rossi had often told her talks show host wife that the rare model was "so cool" so DeGeneres tracked one down in Texas and bought it for her.

But before giving her the car, DeGeneres engaged in a little good-natured fun which she caught on video.

"I had it trucked in and I parked it in a shopping area I knew we were going to go shopping in later that day and had the bow on it. So we were walking and I knew she would notice it, so I filmed it with my phone.”

DeGeneres played back the entire heart-warming scene for her audience, which began with the couple walking through a parking lot as the car catches de Rossi’s eye.

"What about that car. Did you get me that for Christmas?" de Rossi can be heard cheekily asking.

"That one?" DeGeneres replies, as the happy couple approach the parked vehicle. "It's cool...very cool."

"It's ridiculous," de Rossi replies as she examines the olive green vehicle.

It is at the moment that de Rossi turns to face DeGeneres who then presents her with the keys.

"Are you kidding," she giggles. "I...I was joking. Are you kidding me?"

The adorable video just goes to who that DeGeneres practices the kindness that she so regularly preaches on her feel-good show.
