Electrician trapped in roof of Sydney's Capitol Theatre

An electrician has been freed after getting trapped in a small roof cavity at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre.

The man became trapped just before 2.30pm today when he suffered a back injury after crawling into a confined roof space as he worked in the roof of the theatre, in Haymarket.

Four ambulances were directed to the scene and paramedics took about an hour to extract the man. Rescue efforts were hampered by the confinement of the space.

“He managed to get himself in the most precarious and difficult to extricate position so it was a very slow extrication,” James Porter of NSW Ambulance told 9News.

Jersey Boys, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Chicago and School of Rock are currently being shown at the theatre but none were interrupted by the rescue operation above the stage.
