Elders mark Wave Hill return 40th
AAP
Indigenous elders in the Northern Territory are marking 40 years since the late prime minister Gough Whitlam handed land back to the traditional owners at Wave Hill.
Mr Whitlam poured red dirt through the hands of Vincent Lingiari to acknowledge the return of the Wave Hill cattle station to the Gurindji people.
The iconic moment and previous walk-off protest inspired the Paul Kelly song From Little Things Big Things Grow.
