His wife, who was standing next to next to him at the time, was not injured.

Police investigators said the couple were driving south on the Nepean Highway when they pulled over to park in a parking lane on the side of the road.

"The pair got out and were standing near the boot of the car when another car veered off the road and struck the man around 12.15pm," a police statement read.

"Paramedics attended and attempted to revive the man but he died at the scene. The woman was not injured during the incident."

The male driver of the car, a white Ford station wagon, stopped at the scene and assisted police.

However, police are seeking witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.
