Elderly man attacked by 'crazed' goat on Gold Coast property

A 73-year-old man is recovering in hospital after he was attacked by his own goat on a Gold Coast hinterland property this morning.

Witnesses said they saw the man lying exhausted on the ground with the goat in a headlock at the Tallai property.

He had apparently been wrestling with the animal for more than an hour and was too afraid to let it go, worried it may attack again.

"Apparently it had got out and attacked him. I thought he'd tackled a pig first and then he said 'don't come near, he'll take to you', so the paramedics and I stood back," a witness told 9NEWS. 

Paramedics had to wait for police to subdue the goat before they could help the man.

He was suffering from exhaustion and dehydration and was covered in scratches. 

"It was quite a strenuous incident, he was there for quite some time - up to an hour," an Ambulance spokesman said.

The goat was given to the man as a gift from a neighbour, to help tidy up his lawn.

The animal is now with the council pound and the man remains at Robina Hospital.
