Eddie McGuire defends c-bomb slip-up

Eddie McGuire has tried to hose-down the controversy that has erupted after he appeared to drop the c-bomb live on air, claiming there is a logical explanation for the accidental expletive.

The Collingwood club president and media personality, talking to Today this morning, blamed a "funny slip of the tongue" on his blooper during the Big Week In Footy last night.

During a chat with Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes about post-match rub-downs, McGuire seemed to make the remark: "You might need tow rub downs being an old c---."

A social media storm ensued.

But this morning, McGuire hit out saying "as if ... I'd drop the c-bomb intentionally".

"Kane Cornes and (the word) 'campaign' got me," he said.

"When you're on air sometimes, you've got a producer in your ear and all the rest of it, and I sort of caught myself short on 'campaign' and it sounded remarkably like a word that you should not use on television.

"It wasn't aimed at anything like that. It's a funny slip of the tongue, anyway."

Cornes took to social media himself to assure his 10,800 followers he saw the funny side of the slip.

"I know I don't play for Collingwood Eddie but old c@*t is a bit harsh! Got a good laugh out of that," he said.
