Woman hit by car while sitting at bus stop in Sydney's inner west

A young woman has been struck by a car after it hit a bus while she was sitting at a shelter in Sydney's inner west.

It's believed there was a crash between a bus and a car, the car left the road and hit the woman, with the force of the incident buckling the metal seat of the bus shelter on Victoria Road, Drummoyne, at about 7.50am.

NSW Ambulance spokesperson said it looked like the woman had sustained serious trauma from the impact.

"She was sitting there waiting for a bus and multiple cars piled up in front of her and unfortunately one of the vehicles crashed into the bus stop," the spokesperson said.

Images from the scene showed the car wedged closely into the bus shelter, surrounded by firefighters.

The woman was treated for head, neck and lower limb injuries and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a serious condition.

"It just goes to show how vulnerable we can be in the community particularly around just going to work and going about day to day businesses and something you are just not expecting occurs," Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Superintendent Adam Dewberry said.

The driver in her 40s had to wait inside her car for 20 minutes before she was freed by FRNSW.

She was treated by paramedics for an injury to her neck and was also transported to hospital in a stable condition.

About 15 people evacuated the bus unhurt.

Two eastbound lanes were closed on Victoria Road, but have now reopened.

Drivers are warned to allow extra time as traffic is continuing to clear.

Earlier, Live Traffic Sydney said delays were significant, with queues extending back to Gladesville.

Citybound buses on Victoria Road were delayed up to 10 minutes and buses are still missing the affected stop on Victoria Road, which is after Wolseley Street.
