Drug and DNA tests will form part of an ongoing police investigation into a man charged over a fatal crash in central Melbourne.

Aaron Sandner, 29, is charged with culpable driving causing the death of 34-year-old woman Tien Le in the Docklands.

Sandner, of Hillside, also faces charges of dangerous driving causing serious injury, negligent driving and possessing amphetamine.

Ms Le was a passenger in a sedan that collided with Sandner's four-wheel drive on Footscray Road on Saturday morning.

Sandner appeared briefly in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday where prosecutor Michelle Zammit requested an extension of time to await drug and DNA analysis.

Deputy Chief Magistrate Dan Muling extended Sandner's bail until a committal mention hearing in June.
