Dead body pulled from surf at Lake Macquarie beach

NSW lifeguards have found a dead body in waters off Caves Beach at Lake Macquarie.

It is believed the man, who police have not yet formally identified, was swimming in the unpatrolled northern end of the beach yesterday.

Police recovered the man's body, which was examained by a forensic team on a nearby boat ramp.

The man's personal belongings and vehicle were later found at the beach

A brief will be prepared for the Coroner, a NSW police statement said.
