Melbourne drivers have been filmed going to desperate and dangerous measures to avoid paying for parking.

CCTV footage obtained by News Corp from Wilson Parking has captured drivers risking serious damage to their cars and themselves by driving directly through boomgates.

Other drivers are seen getting out of their car to physically break the gate off.

Fixed and covert cameras at all major Wilson Parking sites allow images to be supplied to the police and all incidents are reported, business development manager Simon Pearce told the Sunday Herald Sun.

“It is usually an ill-thought-out snap decision with serious consequence,” Mr Pearce said.

“They have this expectation they will get away with it but we have a substantial combination of fixed and covert cameras across all of our major sites.”

Boomgates can reportedly cost up to $6000 to repair.
