UPDATE: Man freed from crushed car following three-hour rescue mission on Melbourne freeway

Rescue crews have managed to free a driver from his car after he was crushed underneath two trucks on a Melbourne freeway this morning.

He is in a serious condition after suffering chest and internal injuries and has been taken by helicopter to the Alfred Hospital.

Emergency services were called to the incident just before 9am when a car became trapped underneath a truck on the Princes Freeway near Forsyth Road at Point Cook.

Ambulance Victoria Group Manager Tony Elliot said the collision involved three trucks and two cars.

"The man's car somehow ended up under one of the trucks, with the truck's wheels coming to rest just above the driver area," he said.

"Initially paramedics couldn't see the man from the waist down because he was heavily trapped."

All outbound lanes have been closed since 9am as MFB and CFA crews worked to free the driver and clear the scene.

Advanced life support paramedics and intensive care paramedics moved in to assess the man pinned inside his car after both trucks were removed just after 11.30am.

Mr Elliott said the man driving the second car was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

VicRoads is advising motorists in the area to seek an alternate route with outbound lanes not due to reopen until after 2pm.
