Sydney's M7 motorway has been closed southbound after a truck carrying dirt rolled over and trapped the driver inside.   

Emergency services were called to the crash site in Hinchinbrook at about 11.35am.

The 38-year-old driver was trapped in the cabin of the vehicle, with Fire and Rescue NSW crews eventually able to free the man. 

He was airlifted to hospital.

The M7 is closed southbound at Cowpasture Road and motorists are being diverted via Elizabeth Drive. 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
