Mercedes parts traffic on busy Melbourne road

Video has emerged of a Mercedes driver parting a sea of traffic as they drive the wrong way on a busy Melbourne motorway.

The dashcam footage, captured by an unsuspecting driver on Tuesday at 7.30pm, shows the confused motorist weaving through oncoming traffic towards Mulgrave's busy Wellington and Springvale roads' intersection.

Finding themselves face-to-face and only metres from the luxury car, a driver in the far right lane veers suddenly, mounting the curb without a moment's hesitation.

Other motorists take a more calm approach, opting to merge across and clear the way after being brought to an abrupt halt by the white SLK class vehicle.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the incident was not reported and urged witnesses of dangerous driving to come forward.

"Driver behaviour that is putting lives at risk should be reported immediately to triple zero (000)," the spokeswoman said.
