Short-lived escape from car crash

A driver survived crashing into trees in the centre of a Victorian freeway only to be hit and killed by a truck when he got out of his car.
The man was driving towards Melbourne on the Princes Freeway when he lost control and crashed into trees on the centre median strip in the early hours of Friday.
He was hit by a truck when he got out of his car and stepped onto the freeway, police said.

The man died at the scene at Little River southwest of Melbourne.
The male truck driver was not injured.
The accident takes the state's road toll to 76 compared to 67 at the same time last year.
