Victorian man finds massive huntsman living under car door handle

It's the thing you least want to feel when reaching under your car door handle.

Just ask Stephen Wilson, from Wangaratta in Victoria's northeast, who got a rude shock after discovering a huntsman had laid claim to the handle of his Holden ute on Thursday.

"l had just received a delivery and decided to go to my ute to put the invoice in my passenger seat," Mr Wilson told ninemsn.

After touching "something soft and furry", the publican returned with a can of surface spray and his mobile phone at the ready to record the encounter.

But little did he know just how big the arachnid would be.

"When l put my hand under the door handle something felt soft and furry and l thought 'oh my God, that's not right.'

"So l went back into the pub grabbed a can of surface spray and, well, you saw the video."

In the clip, Mr Wilson appears composed as he lets off a charge of the spray under the handle.

At first only one of the hairy huntsman's legs emerge, and then another, finally revealing its full size – an estimated 10cm with its legs outstretched.

"That's the creepiest thing ever," he says between expletives. "It's a bloody super-spider!"

With the spray's effects finally taking hold, the massive spider drops onto road and retreats underneath the vehicle.

Mr Wilson, who owns and runs the town's Grand Central Hotel, shared the video titled "Nothing worse than opening your car door and feeling something furry" on Facebook on Friday.

It has already garnered nearly 400,000 shares.

"Hope it brings a laugh to some of your followers," he said.

Huntsman are a breed of spiders known for their formidable size and speed, though they are not considered dangerous.
