Driver charged after young SA woman hit by car dies

Police have charged a driver after a pedestrian was fatally struck at Adelaide's western suburbs overnight.

Emergency services were called to Addison Road at Rosewater at about 7:20pm following reports a woman had been hit by a white Commodore station wagon.

The 25-year-old woman from South Australia's north was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition, but died shortly later.

The driver of the Commodore presented at the Port Adelaide Police Station a short time after the incident, officers said.

The 45-year-old man from Rosewater was interviewed by police and later charged with aggravated driving without due care and failing to stop and render assistance.

He was bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 15.

Police are still investigating how the crash happened.
