Driver charged after three people pulled from car fire in Melbourne

A 19-year-old Learner driver has been charged after she and two others were pulled from a burning car in Melbourne's Albert Park on Monday.

Police allege the Hastings woman stole a Holden Astra then crashed it into a tree alongside Albert Park on Monday, January 2 just after 9am.

Witnesses rushed to the pull the woman and her two passengers from the car after it crashed into the tree and burst into flames.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Her two passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, were hospitalised with life-threatening injuries.

The Astra is believed to have been stolen along with a white Holden Captiva from the driveway of a Mentone home earlier that morning.

The 19-year-old woman has been charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, theft, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous, drive in a speed dangerous and other traffic offences.

She was taken into police custody to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates' Court today.

Police are yet to speak to the passengers.
