Driver allegedly found speeding at 233km/h through Melbourne's west

A driver has allegedly been caught speeding at 233km/h in a 110km/h zone in Melbourne's west overnight.

Police allegedly spotted the man driving erratically on the Princes Freeway in Laverton just before 7.30pm yesterday.

A police helicopter was used to track the car as it allegedly travelled at 233km/h near the Duncans Road exit, then turned into incoming traffic before the driver did a U-turn.

Police laid out stop sticks on Kirkstone Road in Point Cook to stop the car, before they followed it into a dead-end parking area off Darsham Crescent.

The 23-year-old Greenvale driver was then arrested.

He has been charged with conduct endangering life, speed dangerous, manner dangerous, evade police and exceed speed limit and has been bailed to appear in Werribee Magistrates' Court in February.

His licence was immediately suspended.

The driver was caught the day after a man was caught doing 80km/h over the limit in Melbourne's west with an unrestrained child in the car.

Earlier this week Victoria Police announced it would be cracking down on driver behaviour for this long weekend.
