Dramatic smash during police pursuit at busy Townsville intersection
Police are searching for a woman who led them on a high-speed pursuit through Townsville on Sunday which injured two people.
A fellow motorist managed to capture a particularly dramatic point in the chase at a busy intersection in a shopping precinct.
The female driver leading the pursuit in an orange Mitsubishi Magna ploughs through a red light and hits a silver sedan travelling legally through the green light.
The silver car's front end is completely smashed and debris is strewn across the intersection.
Continuing their high-speed run, the orange Magna then runs over a small traffic island and is followed by an unmarked police four-wheel-drive with sirens blaring just moments later.
With motorists near the traffic island stopped at a red light, several can be seen getting out of their cars and rushing to assist the driver and a passenger in the silver sedan.
Queensland Police confirmed to nine.com.au that two people were injured in the crash and transported to hospital, but did not need to be admitted.
Police ended their pursuit for safety reasons.
The orange Magna was eventually dumped near Warrina Shopping Complex.
Police are appealing for anyone else who may have dashboard camera footage of the incident or captured the car driving after the rash to contact Townsville Police Station on (07) 4759 9777.
