Don't vote for chaos, Morrison warns

Turnbull government ministers have taken up with gusto the prime minister's warning about the prospect of a Labor-led minority government.

With polls showing a 50-50 contest ahead of Saturday's election, Treasurer Scott Morrison has a message for anyone considering voting for the Greens or independents.

"They are voting for a the chaos that we saw under the Rudd Gillard-Rudd years," he told the Seven Network on Monday.

The last thing the economy needed was the instability of unsure leadership on the economy and the "absolute free-for-all" that can potentially happen in both houses of parliament.

The latest Newspoll, published in The Australian on Monday, puts the coalition ahead of Labor 51-49 per cent.

Support for independents and micro parties fell one point to 12 per cent and has dropped from 15 per cent a month ago, coinciding with a same-sized lift for the coalition.

Independent MP Andrew Wilkie says Malcolm Turnbull was being blatantly dishonest in claiming a chaotic Labor-Greens-independents alliance would wreak havoc on the economy.

"Comments like this are terribly disrespectful of the democratic process which allows every Australian to vote for whichever candidate best reflects their views," Mr Wilkie said.
