Don't take turnbacks off table: Dutton
AAP
Immigration Minister Peter Dutton says it would unconscionable if Labor dropped the policy of asylum seeker boat turnbacks.
The ALP will discuss its asylum seeker policy at its national conference in late July, where sections of the party will oppose boat turnbacks, mandatory detention and offshore processing.
"The fact that Labor would contemplate taking it off the table and allowing the smugglers to restart is unconscionable and it's why Bill Shorten has to come out and talk quickly as to what his position is," Mr Dutton told ABC television on Monday.
