Dolphin leaps onto young WA surfer’s board
Video has captured the moment a young surfer collided with a energetic dolphin off Western Australia’s Kalbarri coast.
Junior surfing champion Jed Gradisen, 13, was cruising through the waves earlier this month when he had a close encounter with the bounding dolphin.
Stunning video captured by Jed’s father showed the marine mammal leaping through an arcing wave.
The dolphin landed directly on top of the young surfer’s board.
"Its nose went straight through my board, it must have hurt a bit. It was rustling around and really didn't know what to do,” Jed told STAB surfing magazine.
There were no serious injuries in the incident, which the grommet called “amazing”.
"In my dreams I wouldn't dream about of anything like that,” Jed said.
“Because I think it was an accident. It was just as amazed as I was.”
