Dog plucked to safety after falling 9m down well

Firefighters have rescued a beloved dog that fell down a well while on a hike.

Lucy, a 13-year-old Welsh terrier, fell while hiking with her owners in the Santa Monica Mountains, near Malibu, on Sunday.

She was trapped for about four hours, local fire department spokesman Brian Jordan told NBC LA.

Firefighters created a rope system to lower a firefighter into the cramped hole and bring the dog to safety.

Lucy was not injured in the fall.

“Keep your pet on a leash,” the LA County Fire Department tweeted.
